Checkpoint in Kidal
United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Field Support, Anthony Banbury visited town of Kidal in northern Mali. Located in remote corner of the Sahara desert, Kidal is a last stronghold to rebel Tuareg groups, that overran entire north of the country in early 2012. Since signing peace accord with Malian government in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, regular army and civil administration is trickling back, with strong support of the international community. Since July 1st, African – led military mission has became United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Mali. The logistic task of supporting such heavy military presence in this remote location is daunting.
