Since the Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA) signed a peace accord with the Malian government in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, regular army and civil administration is returning to Northern Mali, with strong support from the international community.
Featured above are UN peacekeepers in the town of Kidal, a CMA stronghold. The peacekeepers are part of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), established 25 April 2013 to support political processes in Mali and carry out a number of security-related tasks. The Mission was asked to support the transitional authorities of Mali in the stabilization of the country and implementation of the transitional roadmap.
