Inside Tahrir Square, an enormous party attended by hundreds of thousands of Egyptians from all walks of life had begun.

Protesters shot fireworks into the sky, held aloft red flares, played songs for dancing crowds and began spontaneous drum circles. The packed crowd did not dissipate until many hours after midnight.
