The Battle of Midway in the Pacific Theatre of World War II took place from June 4-7, 1942, between naval forces of the United States and Japan. Aircraft carriers played an extremely important role on both sides of the conflict. Midway Island itself was important as a refueling and resupply outpost for US naval forces operating out of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.
