Taken on 2016-06-07
Delhi Police attacked students from the Northeast Indian state of Manipur in a lathi-charge (with sticks) at the Manipur Bhavan in New Delhi.
The students were protesting against Inner Line Permit (ILP) related bills in Manipur which restrict mobility in certain parts of the country. Manipur, like other states in Northeast India, has historically been subject to gross negligence and abuse at the hands of national authorities; an unresolved and ongoing problem. Violent repression of protesters is a commonplace occurrence.

Peace March in Homage to Student Rohith Vemula; India, Feb 2016
Taken on 2016-02-17
Translated from french: "Peaceful march of JNU students in homage to Rohith Vemula, PhD student at the University of Hyderabad. He committed suicide on 17 January after suffering from discrimination due to his low caste and after being expelled from his university for carrying out political activities in favour of untouchables.
Hundreds of policemen turned up to handle the sixty-or-so students.
The police chased the students and 'captured' them, often violently, with a ratio of 3 to 5 policemen for a single person, sometimes dragging them to the ground... I do not have photos of this stage because I, too, was busy running away.
All the people were then put in buses which had already been summoned for this action and then taken to the police station for a day of detention. Long live the liberty of expression! (Vive la liberté d'expression!)"

The central government of India, which is led by the BJP, has led a massive crackdown on students at Delhi's prestigious Jawarhal Nehru University (JNU) over the last few days. Policemen and even politicians have beaten up students and arrested them at random and with no legal justification for the same. The BJP was enraged at the criticism levelled against its policies by the students of the university during a peaceful discussion on their campus.

Planned Parenthood Shooting; Colorado Springs, CO, USA, Nov 2015
Taken on 2015-11-27
Planned Parenthood, which delivers reproductive health care and sex education to women and men across the United States, came under attack by a man with an assault rifle on November 27, 2015.
Three individuals were killed in the shooting: University of Colorado Colorado Springs police officer Garrett Swasey, 44, who responded to the shooting; Ke'Arre M. Stewart, 29, who ran back to the clinic to warn others after being shot; and Jennifer Markovsky, 35, who was accompanying a friend to the clinic. Nine other victims, comprising five police officers and four civilians, were shot and admitted to local area hospitals. The gun-man eventually surrendered more than five hours after the first shots were fired.
The attack comes after three additional attacks on Planned Parenthood clinics in 2015 (two cases of arson and one vandalism) and in the context of ongoing anti-abortion violence in the United States against both individuals and organisations ranging from vandalism and threats to arson, bombings and murder since the 1980s.

Taken on 2015-08-13 *
The images presented in this album capture scenes of migrants attempting to make their way to the UK from the French port city of Calais, and French police and gendarme attempting to block migrants from boarding UK bound lorries and entering the euro-tunnel. The images in this photo report were taken in the Summer of 2015.
The Calais migrant crisis refers to the ongoing situation involving refugees and migrants traveling from the French port city of Calais to the United Kingdom, often by crossing the Channel Tunnel or by boarding lorries heading for ferries that cross the English Channel. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, ten people have died trying to cross the Channel Tunnel since the start of June 2015. The crisis has also led to the formation of migrant camps in Calais, one of which--"the Jungle"—has been estimated to have approximately 3,000 inhabitants.
