Chinese UN Peacekeeping Contingent Arrives in Juba, South Sudan, Feb 2015

'Earlier today, 144 Chinese peacekeepers arrived in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) bringing their numbers to 180 of a total of 700 infantry battalion troops, who will be based out of UN House in Juba. The Peacekeepers will be engaged primarily in the protection of civilians, carry out patrols in and around Juba, and the escorting of humanitarian relief supplies.'

Crisis in South Sudan Deepens

South Sudan's second week of conflict has left over 120,000 displaced from their homes. Humanitarian organisations in the country say that these numbers could be much higher given the limited access to the most vulnerable people across the country due to a deteriorating security situation. The European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) has a team based in Juba who are working closely with the humanitarian organisations.
